SAKSHAM FOUNDATION is a charitable trust registered under Indian Trust Act. The main objective of the trust is come out from the name i.e. Saksham – to become self dependent.
Saksham Foundation's work is concentrated in the fields of Education, Health and Community Development which we believe are the areas of greatest need and deserve to be the foci of our attention. We believe the three are inter-related fields and together the only way to make a sustainable and impactful difference in the beneficiary population.
We work for the upliftment of the poor and destitute by helping them achieve socio-economic independence, self - sustainability and health. We do everything from providing educational and health services to the needy, mainstreaming marginalized street children, making low-literate youth employable and empowering women. We help those in need with full respect, love and commitment, with the aim to not deliver charity but to empower them to better their own lot.
Saksham Foundation is the grassroots NGO in India providing services spanning the development trifecta of Education, Health and Community Development.
Education is both the means as well as the end to a better life: the means because it empowers an individual to earn his/her livelihood and the end because it increases one's awareness on a range of issues – from healthcare to appropriate social behaviour to understanding one's rights – and in the process help him/her evolve as a better citizen.
Doubtless, education is the most powerful catalyst for social transformation. But child education cannot be done in isolation. A child will go to school only if the family, particularly the mother, is assured of healthcare and empowered. Moreover, when an elder sibling is relevantly skilled to be employable and begins earning, the journey of empowerment continues beyond the present generation.
Realizing this, Saksham Foundation, beginning in the corridors of education, adopted a lifecycle approach of development, focusing its interventions on children, their families and the larger community.
Saksham Foundation believes that unless members of the civil society are involved proactively in the process of development, sustainable change will not happen.
Following this model of Civic Driven Change, Smile Foundation sensitizes and engages the civil society, making it an active partner in all its welfare initiatives.
The target group of SAKSHAM FOUNDATION are the children and the women belonging to the most disadvantaged sections of the society and mainly comprise of migrants from the nearby states of Delhi who have shifted base to the Capital in search of livelihood. They are engaged in occupations like rag-picking, vegetable vending, house painting, cart-pulling and working as domestic helps, who caught in the constant struggle to earn a decent amount every day to feed their large families, do not have the time and the inclination to think about their children’s education or welfare. The women of the house, on the other hand, have to pitch in to supplement the family income alongside taking care of the house as also face persistent domestic abuse. Their aspiration of leading a good and healthy life is greatly compromised.
To bring a substantial and holistic change in the socio-economic life of the marginalized sections of the society.
• Access to quality education, better health, nutrition, better income by availing the government schemes, policies and their legal rights.
• Create a healthy environment where every individual irrespective of their caste, grid and religion are aware of their rights and enjoy a better life.
• To make the community people self reliant so that they can solve their problems on their own without any external support.
